Barakah Offshore Lands Work On World’s First FLNG Unit

Barakah Offshore, a Malaysian provider of oilfield services, has been selected by Petronas to work on what is expected to be the world’s first Floating LNG unit – the PFLNG1.

According to a Bursa Malaysia filing on Tuesday, Barakah Offshore’s subsidiary PBJV will be responsible for the post installation services, on board hook-up, commisioning and start-up activities at the PFLNG1.

The value of the contract is 19 million Malaysian ringit, or, converted to U.S. dollars, $4.5 million.

Petronas will deploy the FLNG offshore Sarawak, Malaysia, where the unit will produce gas from several gas fields and liquify it into LNG. Petronas in December 2015, said the facility being built in South Korea was 95% complete, with the start-up scheduled for 2016.

Offshore Energy Today has reached out to the Malaysian energy company, seeking more info on the FLNG construction progress. We are yet to receive a response.

The PFLNG1 is reportedly expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2016. It will be 360 meters long and 60m wide and will be moored 180km from shore at the Kanowit field offshore Sarawak, Malaysia. It will produce 1.2 million tonnes a year (mtpa) of LNG.
