Daksta is working in partnership with a globally renowned engineering company who are looking for a General Manager for their projects in Myanmar (Burma).

JOB SUMMARY

An international high added value and innovative engineering solutions provider operating from the Mekong region across Southeast Asia. With more than 1,400 employees within a network of 8 offices in 5 countries, services projects developers in all industry sectors including infrastructure, industry and construction. Established in 1992 in Cambodia and now also in Thailand, Vietnam and Laos and Myanmar.

Overall Purpose of the Role:
The General Manager is responsible for the overall management of their operations in Myanmar, with direct responsibility for Business Development, Engineering & Operations, to ensure that projects are delivered, customers’ needs are met and that Company profit is maximized through the prospection and implementation of projects and services.

Responsibilities include planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall operations in accordance with company policies and procedures, current standards, guidelines and regulations.  HR, Finance and Procurement Support will be provided in country from RMA Group resources – and the GM will need to work closely with these functions.

Full responsibility for Business Development in terms of identifying opportunities, qualifying projects and clients in close liaison with the Regional Operations Director to coordinate support from regional Estimation functions.

The General Manager has full P&L responsibility, and must develop and implement profitable growth plans to increase revenue and market share. This is a key, senior level position, reporting to Comin Regional Operations Director as well as RMA Myanmar Country Manager.

Business Development / Strategy
  • Ensure the creation and implementation of a strategy designed to grow the business and increase competitiveness.
  • Develops short - term and long - term business plans of budgets and forecasts to meet customer expectations and business operations.
  • Creates company’s opportunities by securing new business, providing customer satisfaction, optimizing all resources and demonstrating corporate citizenship.
  • Responsible for overseeing orders and project pipeline and adjust what is necessary to achieve business results.
  • Communicates and contacts clients and suppliers when required.
  • Engage in key or targeted clients activities.

Operations
  • Oversee daily operations for the Comin Company in Myanmar.
  • Ensure overall delivery and quality of projects and services to customers.
  • Direct and coordinate in-country Comin operations within company policies and procedures.
  • Schedule and conduct regular Comin performance meetings and provide employee updates.
  • Responsible for overseeing and monitoring project implementation and adjusting what is necessary to achieve business results.
  • Monitors project costs, quality, value added activities and continuous improvements to maintain and enhance profitable operation.

Finance
  • Review financial statements, orders, sales and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and improvement.
  • Assumes accountability and direct responsibility for capabilities and capacity analysis, approval/authorization for capital and operating requests, developing quality policies that enhances customer satisfaction.
  • Provides an advisory role on business and financial issues to achieve management team goals.
  • Report key results to RMA Country Manager & Comin Asia head office.

QHSE
  • Responsible to ensure all work is performed in a safe, efficient manner and complieswith Company policy, Provincial and Country rules and regulations.
  • Awareness and understanding of ISOs and Quality Policy guidelinesas well as champions these policies within company.

Human Resources
  • Determine staffing requirements, interview, hire and train new employees, working closely with HR, to ensure alignment and consistency with country policies & procedures.
  • Coordinate the development of key performance goals for functions and direct reports.
  • Shows leadership to the workforce by his/her decision-making skills, motivational efforts, fairness and consistency so that employees are well aware of their performance and individual importance.
  • Ensures personnel performing work affecting projects and services quality shall be competent on the basis of on-going training, appropriate education, skills and experience.
  • Provides employees with a good learning environment and necessary tools, which they need to succeed.
  • Develops procedures for motivational and morale aspect, promotes communication and disseminates adequate information to all employees.
  • Provides leadership and chairs regular review meetings.
  • Performs other duties as required.
 
Knowledge Responsibilities

  • Understand the legal environmental and health and safety requirements ensuring the safety and security of people, vehicle and property at all the time, reporting any known faults or hazards.

Travel Requirements:
  • Around 10% of the time either nationally or regionally


PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Education/Certification:
  • Degree – Ideally in a technical discipline with engineering qualification.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Expertise:
  • At least 15 years relevant work experience, combining both technical and marketing/business development work
  • Technical experience ideally in Engineering sector and M&E
  • Strong business acumen, conceptual/ strategic thinking
  • Business Development experience
  • Financial knowledge and understanding basic concepts of accounting
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong Presentation Skill
  • Seniority and Credibility at senior client level.
  • Very good spoken and written English
  • Able take initiative and self-manage while effectively responding to emerging issues.
