E-Tattoo are Now Able to Measure ECG and SCG Activity

Engineers who work at the University of Texas have worked hard to try and develop a flexible tattoo that is able to measure two different types of activity. The graphene-based release is the latest incarnation and it is incredibly flexible too. Participants are wearing cardio electronics and when you look at what some of the researchers have to say, you will soon see that it is the first of its kind. This is especially the case if you work in technical jobs or even in engineering jobs. Sure, a lot of people are going to be familiar with a huge range of ECG technology but it should be noted that SCG is far less pervasive. It works by measuring the amount of vibrations that are in the chest and it also acts as part of a validation for ECG data. This happens when two readings are combined.

It's possible to get a much greater insight into the health of the heart and it is also possible to combine this with a huge range of other data. Sure, soft tattoos for ECG use are not new to say the least. Sensors are now produced using rigid materials and this makes them somewhat bulky and uncomfortable. The device also uses 3D imagery and this helps to map the vibrations that are coming from the chest too. The researchers have also claimed that the tattoo is lightweight and that it can be stretched too. This means that it can be placed over the chest and it causes no discomfort at all, and it also really benefits the patient. This is most certainly a step in the right direction and it just goes to show how far science has come over the years. Only time will tell what new advancements are in the pipeline.
