New Solar Tariffs are Now on Hold

It would seem that those who work in renewables and construction are now seeing solar panel tariffs being put on hold. The sector now needs to seize the moment and work out how the sector is going to move through this challenge. Additional tariffs on any important modules from Asia, which is one of the biggest solar developers in the world, are now trying to weigh out the political risk that comes with investing in the current US market. It would seem that Joe Biden is now trying to give the solar industry a lifeline as well. He has chosen to pause the new tariffs that are coming on any solar models that are being imported from Southeast Asia for a total of two years. He is also going to launch an incentive to see if it is possible to boost the current rate of domestic manufacturing. The action that Biden is taking is ultimately trying to make sure that any stalled projects can resume.

So how is the industry going to use the next two years to secure some kind of domestic supply chain? How is it going to split itself from China? Is it possible for the country to seize the moment or is it again, going to find itself in some kind of trade dispute a year or two down the road? Only time will tell but it is evident that Biden is now doing everything that he can to try and correct the negative impact of what is happening right now. It would also seem that by supporting domestic trade, this is going to make the US much more powerful in the solar market, bolstering the energy industry while also paving the way for a bigger and brighter future.
