Google are one of the few companies that have been carbon neutral since 2007. They are also one of the very first companies to buy renewable energy through PPAs. They have done this since 2017. The company are now trying to transition from 100% renewable energy to matching 24/7 matching by 2030. By matching the energy consumption with clean energy being produced somewhere else on the grid, they can then give corporations the chance to address the current risks as well as the future risks that are coming about as the result of climate change. In some cases, there is a chance for you to go beyond the PPA, and this can be done more effectively to try and decarbonise the grid. RMI defines the hourly load of being a buyer who procures carbon-free energy so that they can match the given load every hour. The findings that were done by the Clean Power by the Hour really are helping to provide some remarkable research for the company and on top of this, it would seem that there are also hourly strategies that can be adopted as well. This is designed to try and handle any emerging tech that may be launched.
The renewable energy movement is helping to create more renewable jobs and this is really paving the way for the future. Those who have not yet offset their annual use with energy that is carbon-free can easily feel confident knowing that they can meet the carbon target. Of course, more and more companies need to try and make sure that they are doing their bit to decarbonise the grid because if this doesn't happen then climate change will continue to happen, and it will bring about challenges that people won't be able to overcome.
