Rolls-Royce have announced that they have completed compatibility tests using sustainable aviation fuel. This is said to be compatible when it comes to producing in-production aero engines. When you look at what Rolls-Royce have had to say, you will find that they are fulfilling a commitment that they made a few years ago. They want to do their best to show that there are no tech barriers when it comes to using 100% SAF. At the end of the day, ground tests have been done and they have shown that the company's facility have now completed a test regime. Other engines have been tested as a result of the program to see what potential it has. A ground test involves in-service conditions which have all confirmed the use of 100% SAF. This doesn't affect engine performance either. In a statement that has been carried out, Simon burr who is the head of Tech and Safety has come out to say that this is a milestone, not just for the company but for the whole aerospace industry.
People do have hopes that the success of the tests is going to provide a level of validation and that this is going to support those who want to invest in the product and SAF in the future. It looks like SAF is going to continue later on this month and that Trent 1000 engines are going to end up powering the Virgin Atlantic Boeing 787. This is great to say the least as it just goes to show how far tech has come and what can be done to ensure that people are given the support they need to make a real difference in this world. Only time will tell what the future holds but it's looking bright.
