TVA have Pitched a 5,000MW Energy Plan

Origis Energy have helped Google to get access to 100% renewable energy for all of their data centres. If you work in the business of renewables then you will know what a huge step forward this is for the industry. It is also a jump for the tech/IT industry as well. The nation’s biggest public utility is now seeking proposals for what could well be one of the biggest swings for carbon-free electricity. There are a mix-and-match range of possibilities and they all range from solar power to nuclear power. When you look at the Tennessee Valley Authority’s request for proposals, you will soon see that they have to try and setup over 5,000MW of electricity that is carbon-free, before the year 2029. This is actually the first time that nuclear experts know of that is able to pair new technology, such as nuclear power, with solar and wind power. The request happens to include a lot of other options too, such as geothermal energy and even battery energy. The Energy Institute for Nuclear Power have come out to say that even though this is a first, the other utilities do envision that this will see a steady increase in the years to come.

The move has come with some other changes. The federal utility have a lingering proposal that is said to shut down the coal-fired fossil plant that is in Tennessee so that it can eventually be supplied with natural gas. This would put them out of step when you look at Biden’s goal of having a carbon-pollution free sector by the year 2035. The US protection agency have expressed a lot of concerns with this, urging the TVA to think about various other options so that the move is not as disastrous for the industry.
